| The process for making custom gowns
is longer than most people think. We will try to explain it simply yet
thoroughly. The first consultation is spent choosing designs, fabrics, trims and doing a cost estimate. We also take some body measurements. Sew Original requires a 50% nonrefundable down payment to begin any project. Depending on the design of the gown a mock-up gown is then made from an inexpensive cotton fabric. At the first fitting this mock-up is fitted to the client. It then becomes the pattern for the finished product. It can take up to 4 or 5 fittings to make a gown fit properly. Even though we take accurate measurements, every body is different. It is very important that clients wear proper undergarments and shoes to fittings so that a proper fit can be acquired. After each fitting, more and more of the gown is constructed until the gown is complete. Occasionally, Sew Original will have a dress already made and available for sale. In these cases, the dress will indicate "Available for Sale", "In Stock", etc. We also frequently have blessing outfits already made and ready for sale. In these cases, we will ship after we recieve your PayPal payment. Simply make your payment and use your payment documentation to send us an email. We will confirm the payment, ship the dress and email you back to let you know that it has shipped. Frequently Asked Questions: How long does it take to make a custom gown? It takes us about 30 hours to make your gown from start to finish. However, you should typically plan on about 6 to 8 weeks. It takes time to order your fabrics and trims. Fittings also take time. We suggest that you start as far in advance as you can. Don't forget, your bridal photos should be taken before your actual wedding! What if I do not live in your area? For clients who are not in our area the process is a little more complicated. You must find someone in your area who is skilled enough to take proper body measurements and do fittings. Check with your local tailors or costume shops. We cannot guarantee the fit of a gown to our long distance clients when we are not performing your fittings ourselves. We do however, do our best to send accurate, understandable fitting directions. It takes at least 8 weeks to make a gown for long distance clients. We suggest that you begin 3 to 4 months before your wedding. Don't forget your bridal photos may need to be taken up to 6 weeks before you wedding so take that into consideration. How much do your gowns cost? This is a tricky question because it all depends on the design of the gown and the fabrics and trims you choose. Our gowns start at about $300 and go up from there. You can expect to pay about $300 to $600 for a gown made from synthetic fabrics and about $500 and up for silk gowns. What if I change my mind about fabrics or trims? Once your fabrics and trims are ordered from our suppliers, design changes may result in additional charges. Do we mind? No - because your gown is custom made, you have the luxury of changing your mind!Do you offer other designs besides the ones in your design gallery? Yes! We will make what you want. Because we do custom work, anything is possible. Come to the consultation with your ideas, and together we will achieve a personalized design. What if I am a petite or plus size? No problem. We make each gown to fit your body, not some set standard of sizes.Do you make attire for men? Yes. We can make mens clothing to compliment the style of your gown. What form of payment do you accept? We are equipped to accept and prefer PayPal payments. This is the most straight forward method. Any buyer can establish a free PayPal account linked to a checking account, or just use an exisiting credit card on the PayPal interface. We will consider other forms of payment only in special circumstances. |
