Designer Biography

Gretchen Edwards is thrilled to be the head designer and owner of Sew Original. She began sewing at age 8 through the 4-H program. Her love for costume design began in high school when she fell in love with the theater.

Gretchen is a graduate of Utah State University with a BFA in Costume Design. While attending USU she was awarded a talent scholarship for her excellence in design. After attending college Gretchen worked for Haluska Design Company where she learned to build beautiful historic gowns for “La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas”, a Debutante Ball held in Dallas. She also built costumes for Six Flags and other theme parks.

Her long time dream of owning her own business came true in 2002. Of this dream she said, “I have always wanted to make beautiful gowns that not only fit the person physically but emotionally also. We all have our own style and that should be shown in what we wear.”

Gretchen loves to make costumes. Through her work in many theaters she has had the opportunity to design and construct many costumes. Halloween is one of her favorite holidays, of course!

Gretchen also loves to scrapbook, sing, spend time traveling with her husband, and she tries very hard to keep up with her kids.
